Keeping children home
30/03/2020
11:45

Dear Families

Thank you again to those families for supporting us to keep everyone safe by keeping your children home. Thank you also to those of you who have informed us of this officially with an email or a call.

The students who are here today will be receiving a letter to keep us updated as to your situation as we recognise that some families have commitments as essential workers.

Please call or email the school if you have kept you child home and have not informed the school as to whether this is for the foreseeable future.

Please take care and stay safe.

Letter from the Minister for Education
27/03/2020
9:45

Dear Families

I am attaching a letter from Hon Sue Ellery MLC - Minister for Education that was sent to me last night. It basically outlines my previous posts. It stresses the importance that if you can keep your children at home, you are encouraged to do so.

I would like to say thank you yo all of our families who have let us know that they will be keeping their children at home from next week for the reminder of the term. Thank you for doing your part to keep us all safe. Also, to our families who are essential workers and need to send their children, be assured that although things will look very different at school, we will care for your child. Thank you for doing your part for the entire community.

Please if you can, keep your children home.

If you intend to keep your child home after today, call the office or email heathridge.ps@education.wa.edu.au to let us know.

What Term 2 and beyond will look like is not clear yet. I will keep you posted as I know. I will also let you know when work packages will be available. This will all be decided during the pupil free days in Week 10 from 6-9 April.

If I do not see you before we get back to normal, please take care. Keep healthy and keep strong. I know we will get through this together. Thank you again for your support.

Kindest regards

Mrs Jeffs

Dear Parents and Carers
You may have heard in the media this morning that Mark McGowan, Premier of Western Australia, has announced changes to schooling effective of next week. These are:
· From Monday, 30 March to Friday, 3 April all children who attend school will be taught as normal. However, as you are aware, we are combining classes which impacts on what is being taught at the moment. As per the Premier’s announcement, families are encouraged to keep their children at home and access the online learning resources available at https://www.education.wa.edu.au/learning-at-home
· The following week (6 to 9 April) teachers and education assistants will prepare teaching programs for Term 2.
· During this time (6 to 9 April), students who attend school will be supervised.
The Government recognises there will still be families who need to send their children to school during this period (6 to 9 April) . These may include:
· Children of parents and carers who need their children to attend school to maintain employment.
· Children who live in families with aged relatives.
· Children where it is safer for them to be at school.
Although you may have many questions regarding what this means, we are waiting for an update from the Director General, and I will keep you informed as soon as we have further information.
Please direct any questions to myself via 9233 8950 or my email denise.jeffs@education.wa.edu.au and not your child's teacher.

Hamony Day Cancelled
16/03/2020
16:05
HARMONY DAY CANCELLED!
It is with great sadness that I have to announce that we received a COVID-19 update at 3.31PM today that gave schools advice regarding mass gatherings.
The announcement was very clear that there is no need for school closures.
However, schools should now review their schedule of activities.
Sensible social distancing measures are to be put in place at schools. Events where large static crowds are convened should be cancelled. Generally speaking, a static gathering is where people are together in an area for a period of approximately two hours.
Further advice included:
Fund raising events or school based activities which involve groups of visitors on the school site
· review and reconsider non-essential gatherings of fewer than 500 people
Activities involving parents and caregivers on the school site (e.g. Parent reporting nights, welcome events)
· review and reconsider non-essential gatherings of fewer than 500 people
In light of this advice and new recommendations, we will be cancelling all Harmony Day activities including the shared lunch with families. Students will remain in their usual classes for the day and learn about Harmony Day with their regular peers.
We are working with the P&C to arrange delivery of the food to the school which will be handed out by staff to students. Any family orders can be collected from the office and taken home by parents.
We apologise for any inconvenience but the safety of students and staff is always our highest priority.

Important Update COVID-19
16/03/2020
10:55

Dear Families

I want to keep you all updated as I receive updates from the Department of Education in regards to COVID-19.

The latest information and advice has some implications for our school and to ensure everyone at our school is safe we will be putting in precautionary methods.

  1. Harmony Day - WASO have cancelled their performance and workshop scheduled for tomorrow.  As a result, we will not be holding a whole school assembly in the morning.  We will, however, still be having our school based activities between recess and lunch.  Our shared family lunch will still go ahead but we will spread out with our students and not have a mass assembly before the lunch.  We still encourage students to wear orange, red and yellow and bring a gold coin donation.
  2. All whole school assemblies and meetings will be cancelled until further notice.  Although we have less than 500 students, we are adhering to the proximity advice given on Sunday.
  3. Travel restrictions – If a family member have returned from travelling overseas since midnight 16 March, we expect that they will follow the Government ruling and self-isolate.
  4. In case of a school closure we are researching work packages and online platforms to continue learning for students.
  5. We will be using our PA system for whole school announcements during this time of no assemblies.
  6. Official information regarding COVID-19 in Western Australia - www.wa.gov.au/covid19
WA Department of Health information – www.healthywa.wa.gov.au/coronavirus
    Coronavirus information hotline – 1800 020 080
Smartraveller – information regarding travel advice for Australians - www.smartraveller.gov.au

The best thing we can do to protect ourselves is quality personal hygiene - as we would in the winter flu season. That includes covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands often with soap or sanitiser and to stay home from work or school if they are unwell.

INFORMATION FROM THE COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE - COLOUR BLINDNESS
03/03/2020
12:50

Colour blindness means that a person cannot distinguish some colours or see the colours differently to other people. Very few people who are colour blind are ‘blind’ to all colours. Commonly, the colours seen differently are greens, yellows, oranges and reds.

An information leaflet on colour blindness will be distributed to all Pre-primary students in term One. Please take the time to read the pamphlet.

For more information and see the Colour Blind Awareness and Support Group on http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~doverton/

If you have any concerns, colour vision testing can be performed by some general practitioners, eye specialists or optometrists. You can also contact your local Community Health Nurse, Stacey Kelly on 0424 085 091.

Many Thanks

Welcome BBQ Is ON!!
27/02/2020
9:35
Dear Families
We met with the P&C today and have made a decision that the Welcome BBQ will go ahead.
However, it will not take place on the oval. We have decided for safety and comfort that all activities will take place within the school grounds so that we have shelter from any storms.
The P&C will serve their food outside the library and tables will be set up in library to eat the food, should the weather be too bad to sit outside on the grass or verandahs. A movie will play in the library.
The Year 5/6 Camp Cake Stall and Ice-cream sales will take place outside the staff-room.
We will also open the undercover area (NO FOOD OR DRINK) for music and table tennis and other activities.
If the weather is fine the Nature Playground will also be open.
We hope to see you all there rain or shine.

PHOTO DAY -THURSDAY, 5 MARCH
17/02/2020
13:50

Dear Families,

Students are bringing home their photo envelopes today.  This year we are very excited to be going with a new photography company called "3P Photography."  This change has been endorsed by the school board last year and their product looks amazing.

If you would like a sibling photo, please go to the library before school or after school on the photo day.  You DO NOT need a separate envelope for the sibling photos.  Please record sibling orders  on your oldest child's envelope.

All information regarding ordering can be found on the student photo envelopes.

If you have any questions regarding school photos, please do not hesitate to contact me.

 Kind regards'

Week One Term One 2020 Update for Families
07/02/2020
10:00

Dear Families

Welcome to our first weekly update for 2020.

It has been a fabulous start to the term. Everyone has been so eager and happy to learn together. We welcome back all of our existing staff and have welcomed some new staff members Miss France Year 4/5, Mrs Howie- EA Year 2/3, Mrs Osborne -EA PP and Mrs Ellis - EA Kindy.

Mrs McInnes has taken on the role in Kindy. Mrs Terry-Short has taken on French! Miss Fondacaro is teaching Drama and Science. Mrs Sublet is teaching Phys Ed and literacy support.

We are so excited about Stage One of our playground makeover. Talking to the students they have told us that they love it and "it is so much than before!" The opportunities to learn outside are endless. Mrs Pires and I are meeting with a company on Monday to plan Stage 2 and our new "imaginative" playground.

Hopefully our painting will all be finished this weekend. The painters are doing a fantastic job making sure that what they do lasts and looks great. being near the ocean has caused some issues with rust but hopefully all the preparation they have done this time will mean our school will look beautiful for many years.

Once again, I have loved walking around the school and seeing the learning that is happening. I continue to love my chats in the library before school and my highlight was meeting all of Kindy students this week.

Next week we look forward to our Pizza Day Camp Fundraiser on Friday.

Teachers will all be setting up their Seesaw accounts and letting families know when they will be holding their class meetings over the next two weeks.

Once again, welcome back! I look forward to catching up with you all this term.

A reminder that the P&C AGM is on Tuesday morning at 9am in the library.

Term Planners will go out after this meeting once all important dates from the school and P&C have been decided.

Please put Thursday 27 February in your calendar as we have our Welcome BBQ 4-6PM on the oval that day. The P&C will be catering this event and the Year 5/6 students will be holding a cake stall and ice-creams as a fundraiser for their camp that is happening this term.

Also please note that Friday 28 February is a School Development Day - students do not attend.

Thank you,

Mrs Jeffs

BELRIDGE SECONDARY COLLEGE TRANSITION FOR YEAR 7 2020
19/11/2019
1:05

Here is a message from Belridge Secondary College:

Transitioning to Secondary Schooling is always a big step, adjusting to a new school environment, finding your way around, getting to class on time, building new relationships and being prepared with the right books and equipment for each class can all be daunting.  With the help of our Student Services team, our Year 7 class of 2020 was made to feel welcome and were given the opportunity to explore the school's magnificent grounds with our Year 9 Peer Support leaders.

Our Chaplin, Phil Leenman, guided the students through crocodile infested waters where they employed quick thinking and team work to save each other!  The students participated in an orientation race around the school answering questions and enjoyed either a morning or afternoon tea from the cafe.

We are looking forward to seeing our class of 2020 on Tuesday the 10th of December for our full day transition program, which will involve students experiencing various classes such as Home Economics, Design & Technology, Information Technology, Art, Physical Education and Science. More information on this day will be posted to parents and put on our Facebook page.

Warm Regards

Jodie Grieve
