Head Lice
07/09/2017
15:45

Our friends are back again.

Another outbreak of Head Lice (Nits) has occurred and students at North Morley have not escaped.  ALL parents must act responsibly and provide effective treatments for their children.

If live nits are found, the North Metro Office has advised that students may be excluded from school until treatment has commenced.

Parents are asked to check their child’s hair thoroughly tonight and seek advice from their chemist for treatments.

The School Dress Code states that children with long hair must have it tied back at all times. This will also help in the control of head lice.

Thank you

Scabbies
04/05/2017
15:35

A case of Scabies has been reported in the school. Please read the following information from Healthy WA regarding symptoms.

What is scabies?

Human scabies is caused by an infestation of the skin by the human itch mite (Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis). The microscopic scabies mite burrows into the upper layer of the skin where it lives and lays its eggs.

It can also be spread indirectly by sharing articles such as clothing, towels or bedding that have been used by person who has scabies. Such indirect spread can occur much more easily when an infected person has crusted scabies.

Signs and symptoms

If you have never had scabies before, symptoms may take as long as 4 to 6 weeks to begin. It is important to remember that a person with an infestation can spread scabies during this time, even if they do not have symptoms yet.

If you have had scabies before, symptoms usually appear much sooner (1 to 4 days).

The most common signs and symptoms of scabies are an intense itching (pruritus), especially at night, and a pimple-like (papular) itchy rash.

The itching and rash may affect much of your body or be limited to common sites. Some of these common sites include:

  • wrist
  • elbow
  • armpit
  • webbing between the fingers
  • nipple
  • penis
  • waist
  • belt-line
  • buttocks.

Treatment of scabies

If you are diagnosed with scabies you should be treated.

If you are diagnosed, treatment is also recommended for all members of your household. Everyone within the household should be treated at the same time to prevent reinfestation.

Retreatment may be necessary if itching continues more than 2 to 4 weeks after treatment or if new burrows or rash continue to appear.

School sores
08/03/2017
15:25

Two cases of Impetigo (school sores) have been reported here at NMPS. Impetigo (school sores) is a highly contagious type of skin infection caused by Staphylococcus or Streptococcus bacteria.

The infection is characterised by inflamed blisters that pop, weep and form crusts. Treatment options include antibiotic cream, ointment, antibiotic syrup or tablets.

A child with impetigo should be kept home from school until appropriate treatment has begun and the sores on exposed areas are covered with a waterproof dressing and where necessary a crepe bandage.
