Another local school has alerted us to the fact that they have had a number of car break-ins over the past couple of weeks. This is just a friendly reminder to please ensure that you do not leave any valuables in your car and to be vigilant at all times.
Please be aware that during Term 4, all orders received during the week will be packaged and delivered to classrooms on the Thursday of each week. If items are out of stock, you will be sent an email notifying you of the wait time.
Kind regards,

LOCKDOWN
Today we conducted a Lockdown drill at the school. This drill is part of our risk management procedures. In an emergency sometimes a school might be required to ensure all students are safely kept inside buildings. This might occur if there was some danger outside such as an intruder, a fire, a swarm of insects, an extreme weather event or some airborne pollutant. This would only occur if it was deemed that an evacuation was not the best strategy. This drill is important to ensure we have everything ready for an emergency and that the staff and students are able to follow procedures efficiently and effectively. Although the staff have talked to the students about this procedure and answered their questions, some students might have more questions and wish to discuss this further with their parents. These emergencies do not happen very often, and might never happen at all, but it is better to be prepared and safe rather than sorry.

Today is Australian Primary Principals' Day – 2nd August. On behalf of the P&C and the broader school community at Kensington Primary School, we would like to acknowledge the work our Principals do and the leadership they demonstrate as part of the education of our students. Thank you Bronwyn, Claire and Clare.
Today is the inaugural P&C Day – 26th July. On behalf of the staff at Kensington Primary School, I wish to acknowledge the wonderful work our P&C does for the betterment of our school and for our students. The P&C is a wonderful way to be actively involved in the community and to get to know other members of this lovely community, while contributing to the life of the school and improving outcomes for all children who attend here.
Thank you to our fantastic P&C. Last year the P&C raised over $25000 for this year’s wish list (including recurring expenses) of items for the school. This entailed things such as the upcoming kindy upgrades, blinds for the music room, comprehension & reading resources, a junior playground swing (to be installed this term), the Consent 2 Go software, library resources and the much feted Growth Mindset quotes in the senior toilets (with more to come in the junior toilets).
The P&C has been busy this year, fundraising for next year’s wish list too. The Colour Run was a great success, as was the cake stall and sausage sizzle during the federal election, to name a couple of events. Please support our active P&C by booking in to attend the upcoming Old Skool Quiz Night at the South Perth Community Hall on 24th August. We also thank and acknowledge the class reps initiative of the P&C, helping us all stay connected and updated.
Our next P&C meeting is on Tuesday at 7:30pm in the staffroom. Come along and be part of this active and supportive group.

If you have any lego materials that are surplus to your requirements, we would love to give it a good home here. We are setting up a quiet play area for those who would prefer to spend their breaks in quiet activities. Lego will make a good addition to this area. Please drop any in to the office after the holiday break or let us know so we can collect it.
Please find attached a letter from the principal regarding an incident this morning.
The Colour Run Lapathon will be taking place on Friday 14 June 2019. See the attached poster for full details.
Parent Social Committee
Fun people wanted! We are looking for volunteers who’d like to be involved in the KPS Parent Social Committee for 2019.
This is an informal committee whose purpose is to work with the Fundraising Coordinator to arrange school related social events throughout the year. No matter what your skill set is, everyone is welcome to contribute.
If you’ve been waiting for your chance to get involved with the school but haven’t put your hand up for anything yet – now is your chance to get in on the fun stuff!
Please contact Camille Jeppesen on email camille@fluidfinancegroup.com.au to find out more.
The 2019-20 Entertainment Book is here! Support KPS by purchasing your Entertainment Book via this link – www.entbook.com.au/859a57
We are happy for students who are being directly supervised by the parents to play on playground equipment after school. Supervising other people's children, without consent from their parents, is not compliant with legal requirements. Equipment can not be used before school (except by clubs who have been licensed to use the school site for training) and the oval is out of bounds before and after school.
It has been school policy for some time for the early childhood area (enclosed area where the kindy and pre-primary classes are located) to be vacated by 3:30pm. Likewise, now that we have OSHClub on site, it is important that we vacate the schools grounds by 3:30pm to allow the OSHClub to use the area, as they are licensed to do.
If you would like to pay upfront charges for your child/ren, please see or phone Amanda/Sharon in the office and they can take your payments now.

Please come along and support the next DUCKs event at the Como Bowls Club
The DUCKs are proud to host an evening with NBL Champion and former Vice Captain of the Perth Wildcats - Greg Hire
Greg's life as a young kid, by his own admission, was far from stable. His dad moved away when he was young, his mum worked long hours and was often away working for days at a time. Dabbling in drugs and alcohol and sleeping overnight in train stations and on school ovals was part of his teenage life. Fortunately for Greg, a Phys Ed teacher at high school helped to point him in the right direction.
Many years of training and persistence against adversity led to a very successful career with the Perth Wildcats.
Greg started his own charity “A Stitch in Time” in 2014 and, along with his role as an ambassador for Perth based charity “Youth Focus”, is heavily focused on improving the mental health of Western Australian children.
Greg was named the recipient of the 2018 Western Australian of the Year Youth Award for his work with A Stitch in Time.
Please come along and listen to Greg who will discuss with us his great work for A Stitch in Time and his efforts to raise money for youth suicide prevention. You will also get a great insight into his life juggling a young family as a professional athlete.
Greg is donating his time to come and talk to us, so please support this event if you can. If you haven’t been to a DUCKs event previously, then this would be a great start! If you have been to a DUCKS event before, please bring along someone who hasn’t!
Cost to be confirmed but expecting about $10/head to cover venue and some finger food.
Please get your RSVPs in quickly to Mike Purves at mikepurves@me.com
